Sunday’s weigh-in was 132 pounds but I couldn’t properly evaluate the adequacy of my current caloric intake for weight loss. The reason for this is because I was out-of-town for two days with DD at her dance competition. I still did reasonably well even though we ate out for two days. Pre-planning was key. I took individual serving size canned tuna packed in water, fresh fruit, V-8 juice, etc. and put them in the hotel fridge. I also looked up the nutrition content of certain restaurants’ foods before leaving home. Portion control is also key to reigning in the calories when traveling and eating at restaurants. For example, I had the turkey wrap at “The Rain Forest Cafe” and had half a wrap (took home the other half, passed on the cole slaw and had steamed broccoli instead of the garlic mashed potatoes).

February 4, 2010–132 lbs.

An increase in calories may be necessary since it appears I lost 7 pounds in the past 13 days. I don’t want to lost more than 2 pounds a week, especially since I am lifting weights and running. Will continue with this caloric level for another 3 days and weigh-in again on Sunday morning. Lower body workout today.

Today, I will have the opportunity to study for the RD exam while Melody is in catechesis. . .an extra 90 minutes of studying! Yay!

I fell off the fitness wagon since moving to Washington. The result has been weight creep and grumpiness. I climbed back on the wagon last fall.

I went from 0 miles-a-day to running 5-miles-a-day in approximately 3 weeks. My impatience resulted in a hip flexor injury last November and an additional reward: a consult with a physical therapist. I was out of the the running business for 8 weeks. I am starting over and doing it the right way this time by incorporating good nutrition, weight loss and cross training (pylometrics, weight training, other forms of cardio, flexibility exercises) in addition to the runs.

I weighed in at 139 (BMI 23.86) pounds a week ago. I am now tracking daily calorie & nutrient intake on www.fitday.com. My goal is 129 pounds (BMI 22.14) by March 7th. (The day I am guessing GI Joe comes home from the big sand box.) I need to double check the calculations for BMI since fitday.com is new to me. Fitday.com has a much wider healthy weight range for my height than I used as a former dietitian. My healthy weight range is 120 pounds + or – 10% depending on body frame according to my calculations.

I am now finishing up day 4 on my calorie-controlled diet and I ran my first mile on pavement since last November. It was heavenly. Upper body weight training is on the agenda this evening.

Weigh-in tomorrow morning.
