My Personal Food Beliefs

People are consuming information on healthy eating but not eating healthy foods. That’s because we are drowning in a sea of nutrition information. My beliefs on food, diets, cooking and nutrition are simple and follow the K.I.S.S. (Keep It Simple Silly*) philosophy:
1. Food should nourish the body, taste good and look like food.
You won’t find a tater tot casserole here. Okay, well, maybe. See #5.
2. Cook at home as often as I can.
I have more control over the cooking method and ingredients in our food.
3. Cook with ingredients that have as few additional additives in them as possible.
I do the best I can with this one. Some additives are necessary.
4. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
Do I sound like a skeptic?
5. Moderation in everything, even moderation.
This means we eat “healthy” 80-90% of the time and 10-20% of the time we eat whatever we want.
These are general guidelines I use when feeding myself and my family. Most of the concepts are not new but work for us. What guidelines do you use to feed your family nutritious, healthy meals?
*I realize that K.I.S.S. usually stands for “Keep It Simple Stupid,” but Miss M. informed me that we don’t say “stupid” in our family.;-)
